An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a PC and is the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, hosting servers also use an Operating System which acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.

Our VPS server packages feature three Linux releases that you could choose from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being absolutely free, the OSs are really stable and secure and the main reason to offer you all 3 of them is to make sure that you will be able to run each application that you would like, because different pieces of software could have different requirements with regards to the environment they can be used on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a large community of developers who have produced many hundreds of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you select, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to manage your hosting content. Also, should you decide that you need another OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.

In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different apps could have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and secure web hosting service. Based on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you would like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
